Neston Police Report on Latest Beat Meeting

Published: 20th January 2014 11:09

PC Graham Davis shares the results of the latest Neston Area Beat Meeting, held at the Town Hall on January 14.

Cheshire PoliceThe meeting was attended by only 6 residents (which is a 40% less than the last meeting - likely due to the inclement weather on the evening). It was chaired by PC DAVIS with PCSO GUITON also in attendance.

The three areas of focus from the last meeting were discussed, those being:

Anti-Social Behaviour:

As with previous Beat Meetings, figures were given to the audience for the 12 weeks since the last meeting (22/10/13) and broken down by beat. It was again explained that I had focussed those figures on youth and vehicle ASB as they have been the areas of concern historically.

It was explained that there seems to have been a measurable decline in ASB when compared to the previous period. I suggested that this may well have been down to past interventions by local officers and the ASB department in respect of ABDs etc. and the fact that officers ensure that they are visible in the areas most often affected at the relevant times (largely the town centre and around Sainsbury's). It was also explained that regular ASB perpetrators were known to all local officers and PCSOs and would continue to be challenged and that further action beyond ABDs would be considered where appropriate.

It was again noted by a member of the audience that the historical "boy racer" issue associated with the Clayhill Industrial estate had disappeared. It was explained that this was largely due to the efforts of local officers in 2013.

Of significance, the figures produced from the local Beat Sheets show that instances of Youth and Vehicle ASB for the period in question, when taken as a whole across all Beats, was 33 against 71 for the previous period. Each beat showed a reduction in ASB with the exception of Burton/Ness & Riverside beats which remained the same. The figures indicate a negative trend.

Speeding / Road Traffic

It was mentioned by an audience member that Leighton Road appeared to continue to have speeding issues. It was pointed out that the location had been targeted in the recent past by Police and no significant problem had been found. It was also pointed out that regular Community Speed Watch continues with some 20 sessions in the Burton and Willaston areas since the last period. It was noted that most drivers caught speeding are in fact locals.

It was mentioned by a different audience member that the past issue of inconsiderate and poor parking by parents at Neston High School had gone and that the member checked regularly.

The audience was made aware that the parking competition run by PC SUMNER and PSCO TUDOR with pupils at Willaston Primary and Woodfall Primary had been finalised and once posters had been produced the result would be publicised.

Another member voiced concerns about the speed limit on the CWAC controlled stretch of Upper Raby Road and also its use by articulated lorries. That member understood that this issue was one for Highways / Local Council but wanted officers to be aware.

Mention was made of vehicles regularly parking poorly on Quarry Road. It was pointed out that Police were aware and that these vehicles had recently been ticketed by a Police Sergeant for obstruction and that local officers would keep an eye on the location.

There was a further question about when the proposed Willaston 20mph limit would happen. The questioner was directed to CW&C's web site for further information.

Drugs

The audience was again reminded of the importance of information from them and again reassured of the very strict protocols that are in place in respect of the National Intelligence Model and how police deal with intelligence and its anonymity. The audience had no direct questions in relation to drug activity in the area.

Other

The audience was made aware that the case of the Parkgate Fire had still not come to a conclusion, but that the court case was scheduled for the coming Thursday and that when it had reached its conclusion full details would be made available.

The audience was made aware that the NatWest bank robbery was also a live investigation and as such I could not pass any specific detail.

The audience agreed that the current issues should remain the priority with no change in focus.

This is an overview of the meeting only and covers the main points discussed - it is not exhaustive.
