Neston Police are investigating following an horrific attack on a pony at her stable at Childer Thornton, near Hooton, Wirral.
Penny, a 16 year old Welsh Section B pony was brought into her stable as usual on Sunday evening (January 19). When owner, Karris, returned to feed her on Monday morning she found what appeared to be sores on the pony's side.
Leahurst Equine Practice attended and, upon further examination, it emerged that the sores were, in fact, deliberately inflicted burns, which appeared to be consistent in size to a cigarette end. A staple was also found in one of the burned areas.
Police and the RSPCA were immediately contacted.
Owner Karris and her family are distraught at the pain this pony must have gone through and would like any information anyone might have to try and catch who was responsible for this heartbreaking attack .
Penny is now said to be very unhappy with anyone close to her except her owners, who are focusing on nursing the frightened pony back to health.
If anyone has any information that may assist in tracing those responsible for this horrendous attack, please contact Neston police using the 101 number and quote incident 624 of 20/01/14.
