Take Pride in Neston - Help the Town Win!

Will Neston and Little Neston win the Cheshire Best Kept Village competition in 2014, as they did in 2008?
Each year since 2005, Neston Civic Society has entered Neston and Little Neston in the Community Pride competition, and in the last few years Neston Town Council have jointly entered us. The judges come round from April to September, looking for a 'well maintained, vibrant and creative community' They are good at spotting excess litter, notices out of date, and in the last two years they have homed in on weeds.
Last Saturday, 29 March, Janet Griffiths, who is Deputy Mayor as well as Treasurer of Neston Civic Society, organised a litter pick around Neston Clayhill Business Park (I think that's the right name) and along Raby Park Road. A gang of sturdy volunteers (pictured above) set out with green bags, strong gloves and litter pickers (good for extracting crisp packets from hedges).
This Sunday, 6 April, Janet is organising another group. We meet in Neston Market Square at 10 a.m., and in our sights will be the weeds in Chester Road car park, and around the Station car park.
If you can't come on Sunday morning, you can pick up litter or weeds any time. If you can't do that you can let Janet know of any places where able-bodied volunteers can be directed.
In May we expect Neston Town Council to elect Janet Griffiths as Mayor. On June 5th we will see the 200th Ladies Day Walk. Wouldn't it be great if we can also celebrate this year as the Best Kept Village!

The job is not complete, and Janet is planning to organise more volunteer days. Tomorrow Thursday 10 April at 10.30 a.m., I plan to be at Neston Station car park with volunteers from Friends of Neston Station to dig up dandelions.
Meanwhile, anybody is more than welcome to pick up litter or pull up weeds! We are hoping that 2014, as well as being the year we celebrate 200 years of Ladies Day may be the year we win Best Kept Village again!
