Council Launches Burton Marsh Greenway 'Share With Care' Proposal

Cheshire West and Chester Council has launched a ‘Share with Care' proposal for Burton March Greenway - designed to ensure that all types of users can enjoy it.
Locality Officer Elaine Grant, Councillor Kay Loch, Councillor Louise Gittins, Greenspace Officer Peter Atkinson and cyclists who support the proposal.
The greenway route linking Neston and Deeside Industrial Estate has proved to be a great success with walkers, wheelchair users and cyclists - allowing people to use sustainable modes to travel to work, as well as providing a great facility for recreational walking and cycling.
However local residents living near the end of the Greenway in Little Neston have been reporting a growing problem with a small minority of speeding cyclists.
The result is the ‘Share with Care' proposal, which, supported by Cheshire West and Chester councillors Louise Gittins and Kay Loch, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Sustrans, the Local Sustainable Transport Fund, local residents and cyclists, has been produced in order to try to reduce the speed of cyclists as they approach the end of the Greenway.
Local member, Councillor Kay Loch, said: "The proposal includes new signs, extensions to the two existing speed humps near the end of the route to make them more effective and a gate which will be positioned on the narrow section north of Quayside in the area where most of the problems occur.
"We also intend to send letters to local cycling clubs to request considerate use. We all hope that these measures will bring home to the small minority of inconsiderate cyclists the need to ‘share with care'."
Local member, Councillor Louise Gittins, said: "This is a welcome development by the council. Local residents have been calling for action to address problems encountered on the Greenway involving a small minority of irresponsible cyclists.
"This is a shared route for everyone to enjoy and there should be respect from and for all users."
Colin Wells from RSPB, said: "I am more than happy to support the "Share with Care" proposal, the Greenway is a place that appeals to a wide variety of people and groups and is for everyone's enjoyment."

PS: Anybody interested in health walks, we meet at Ness Gardens car park at 10.30 am every Friday (except bank holidays). Wear sensible shoes. It's about an hour and a half and there are some hills. Very sociable group.
The cycleway is a fantastic addition encouraging people who want to keep fit. Why do some users have to be so selfish?
