Neston's New Building
Extracted from the latest Neston High School newsletter, HEADLines by Head Teacher Mr S Dool:
For the past few months we have been negotiating our way through a competitive tendering process for the contract to build our new school. As a result, we have not been at liberty to share any information on how things were progressing. But with the successful conclusion of this challenging phase of the process, we are now pleased to announce the next steps along the way to our community benefiting from a £25 million investment in education at Neston High School.
During the summer holidays, the contract to build our school was awarded to Morgan Sindall - a group with a great deal of experience of building in this specialist sector.
Last week we held our first meeting with their team of planners, designers, engineers and architects to consider their plans for the layout of the school site and we also had an early glimpse of how the outside of the building might look.
All parents, staff and local residents are welcome to call in to school on Wednesday 10th September for a public consultation event. Plans will be on display and representatives will be on hand to answer any questions in Stewart Hall from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
The school will be constructed well away from the existing school building, which means that students and teachers will be able to continue their work as normal throughout the programme.
With a scheduled build time of 20 months following the necessary planning applications, we eagerly anticipate the school being completed by 2017 and starting the next chapter in our school's development.

The construction programme will provide new, purpose-built buildings for the benefit of 8,150 pupils as well as 124 nursery places. Morgan Sindall will be responsible for the design and construction of the schools as well as the provision of maintenance and lifecycle services over a 25 year period.
The secondary schools in this batch are:
Blacon High School, Blacon
The Deanery Church of England High School and Sixth Form College, Wigan
Neston High School, Neston
Ridgeway High School, Prenton
South Shore Academy, Blackpool"
So it won't belong to CWAC and we'll be paying to use it for ever.
I hope all residents care about what happens. The High School, with a splendid record academically and pastorally, is a big part of what makes Neston a community. I want it to do well.
I hope the new building does not encroach on our green belt, another part of what makes Neston a community. Will the Recreation Centre maintain the special arrangement of a shared facility for the school and the community?
The Neston grapevine (sometimes more accurate than the official news) has been talking about a three-storey building. I suspect the picture does not represent what is proposed for Neston.
I hope to find out more this afternoon.
