Neston Sea Scouts Raise Hundreds with Thousands of Pennies

Dee Sea Scouts, based in Burton Road, Neston, completed a Penny Mile this week thanks to their own huge efforts and support from local businesses and residents.
On Saturday September 27, the Scouts laid out thousands (estimated to be in the region of 7000) pennies on Neston Market Square, to raise funds for the repair, maintenance and purchase of equipment they need for their various activities.
Collection tubs had been available throughout the area in the weeks running up to the event, in a number of local premises including Tracey's Food Hall (pictured above), who also assisted with the storage of all the pennies after the event.
Other businesses who took part in the collections included The Brown Horse, Elephant Coffee in Neston and Parkgate, Mozkitos Coffee House, Temptation, Cubbins, S&N Motor Factors, Nisa, the Tudor Rose and Net's Café.
On the day itself, many members of the public strolled into the square to see the mile taking shape and to contribute more bags of change to the cause.
The final total has not yet been tallied, but it is hoped that around £700 will have been raised.
Well done to everyone who contributed to this fantastic achievement.
