Celebrating Success and Saying Farewell - a Busy Time for Neston Air Cadets

Author: Lisa Fields Published: 16th April 2015 10:54

Neston Air Cadets have been busy taking part in regional competitions and have recently bid farewell to one of their most successful members.

Four cadets from 2375 (Neston) Squadron, captained by CI Matthew Jones, successfully gained the trophy for the Wing Adventure Training Exercise Competition for the fourth year in a row.

Cadet Warrant Officer Callum Reid, Corporal Joshua Molyneux, Corporal Jonathan Mountford and Corporal James Hemingway (pictured above) competed over the period of a weekend in kayaking, climbing, mountain biking, archery and navigational skills and claimed gold medals and a trophy for the squadron.

This would not have been possible without the skills and training of Flying Officers Tom Morris and Will McCormack.

A team of cadets from 2375 (Neston) Squadron competed in the recent Inter-Squadron Athletics competition held at the legendary athletics track, The Oval. Reminiscent of the scenes from Chariots of Fire, cadets stormed their way past other competing cadets of Merseyside Wing, bringing home 17 medals between them.

Well done, and congratulations to Sergeant Callum Molyneux and Cadet Lauren Mealor, who will now represent Merseyside Wing in the Inter-Regional Competition to be held at RAF Cosford.

Farewell Natalie

pursue an RAF career.

It's the end of an era as Cadet Warrant Officer Natalie Fields leaves the Air Training Corps after 7 years to pursue her career as an Air Traffic Controller in the Royal Air Force.

Natalie took every opportunity given to her, travelling across the country and abroad, taking flight and going solo in a Grob Tutor and Vigilant Glider. She visited St James Palace in 2014 and was presented with her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. She also gained BTecs in Aviation Studies and Public Services.

Natalie was also a stalwart in the sporting scene, representing her squadron, Merseyside Wing, Wales & West Region and also the Air Training Corps in various sporting activities. She was among the winners of the 2013 Wing Adventure Training Exercise (WATEX) Team. This enabled her to bring together all the skills learned and to work within a team, taking part in kayaking, climbing and mountain biking and using navigational and first aid skills.

She has raised awareness and funds for local and national charities; examples are, Help for Heroes, Stick ‘n' Step (a local cerebral palsy charity), RAFA, The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, Northern Lights and the squadron, through collections, bag-packs, sponsored bicycle ride and through selling cakes at her previous school.

She gained so much from her experiences in the Air Cadets, meeting many new friends within the Wing and from around the country. She grew in confidence, and enjoyed everything that Air Cadets threw at her.

She took part in the International Air Cadet Exchange, in which she was given the opportunity to go to The Netherlands, meeting cadets from all over the world and passing on her experiences from the Air Training Corps and learn about their organisations.

In 2013 she was presented the Dacre Brooch for best female cadet in the country by the Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty, RAFR.

She did 2375 (Neston) Squadron proud, and we wish her all the very best, as she embarks on the next phase of her life. Good luck Natalie.
