Friday 1st May sees the start of the very popular Wirral Walking Festival 2015, organised by Wirral Borough Council's Countryside Rangers.
Wirral Walking Festival - Hilbre Island
The Festival is a series of exciting and varied walks in the parks, open countryside, coastal and heritage sites in Wirral throughout May each year. You can choose from over 120 varied walks in May: History & Heritage, Habitats & Wildlife and Health Walks - there's something for everyone!
The experienced guides leading the walks for the Wirral Walking Festival will tell you about the rich history and heritage of the peninsula and its towns and villages and will show you the wildlife amongst the woodland, heathland, grasslands and around the coast.
This year the Wirral Footpaths and Open Spaces Preservation Society has included a series of ‘Stroller Walks', with the routes especially planned for people who have trouble negotiating step over stiles and steps. The Society has also organised many other walks, including a "coast to coast" walk from Parkgate to Eastham on Thursday 14th May.
In addition, Geoff Holland, a Footpaths Officer with the Society, is leading a walk on Saturday, 9th May around Little Neston and Ness. The walk starts at Lees Lane car park on the Wirral Way at 10.30 am and is about 4.75 miles.
Says Geoff, "This is a pleasant, easy stroll and is really to introduce people to paths and places that they aren't aware of. We'll be taking our time and there are also a couple of good pubs on the route if anyone feels they need some refreshment!"
