Neston Flower Society Remembers Servicemen

Just before Christmas last year, it was suggested by a member of Neston Flower Society, and approved by the Royal British Legion, that small posies be placed on the graves of servicemen from the First and Second World Wars.
Pat Wood's granddaughter Alice lays a posy.
To identify the graves, at two local churchyards and the local cemetery, we used the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website www.cwgc.org.
CWGC is the organisation that maintains cemeteries for and memorials to those who died in both wars, at 23,000 locations in 154 countries.
Though it was quite a challenge to locate the numbered graves in our town, three flower society members, clutching a printout, eventually found them all.
We made a simple posy for each of the 29 war graves. Bearing a tag 'We Will Remember,' the posy included wheat, rosemary, holly, ivy and a poppy.
It was a very rewarding experience to honour these men and we propose to do the same for the next four years in commemoration of the First World War.
Neston Flower Society President Jan Simmons lays one of the posies.
