Good Home Wanted for Eric the Oak
Author: John Cartlidge | Published: 19th August 2015 08:34 |
John Cartlidge writes from Little Neston about the former acorn known as Eric....
Eric the Oak tree was a foundling discovered just to the side of our doorstep, the fortuitous result of the antics of an amnesiac squirrel. Generally it is not a good idea to have an oak tree growing a few inches from a house, so he was adopted, placed in a crib, and over the last few years has grown well and has become quite independent.
Now aged four, and around 2 feet tall, he is living in a 10 litre pot, and we feel it is time he should find his own place, and so a position is sought. We had thought adjacent to one of the local footpaths but land ownership rules and the penchant of some of our local youth for damaging trees make this an unattractive proposition.
So a safe spot is needed, where Eric can continue to do what he has been doing in peace; a school, a private garden, the grounds of a business, or retirement home perhaps? He will be accompanied by a half sack of compost to help him settle in.

Love this. I have had an offer from Neston Community Youth Centre but I am concerned the grounds are not secure after hours. I will email a link to this article to the current director at Ness and enquire.
Thanks to all.
