It has been announced that Iceland will be closing the doors of its branch in Neston in March.

Staff were informed of the decision last week and speculation is that the decision was largely due to a rent hike for the current premises in the High Street. Iceland have been approached for comment but not yet come forward with a statement.
Members of both Neston Town Council and Neston & District Chamber of Trade have expressed concerns over rent being a possible reason and await Iceland's confirmation before considering their next steps.
The branch will close on March 19th 2016, there is no word yet on the future employment of the current staff.
In better news, four currently empty premises in the town have a brighter future beckoning. The former Galen pharmacy building in lower High Street will be home to a new Costa branch from early next year, the Lodestar in Brook Street is due to re-open imminently, a local business is in the last stages of negotiations over the former Cheshire Building Society premises and it is understood that the NatWest building has been sold at auction to a local business, though its future use is as yet to be determined.

Stop Press 17.12.2015 - Iceland have now put forward the following comment: "We can confirm that the small Iceland store in Neston will be closing next year.
"We are very grateful for the custom and support of the community over the years. Iceland is continuing to open new stores and will review any suitable opportunities that may arise."
