Two Mills Junction Repairs - Update

Published: 28th January 2016 13:00

Frustrated motorists have been caught in traffic gridlock at peak times this week, due to repairs taking place at Two Mills junction on the A540 between Chester and Neston.

The repairs to traffic lights on the junction of the A540 and A550 have led to huge delays for drivers.  On behalf of our readers, we made enquiries this morning to Cheshire West and Chester Council's Highways Department.

A spokesperson for CWAC said: "These lights are the responsibility of Highways England and as a result we can do nothing to influence them to make a repair any faster.

"However, both myself and Cheshire Police have spoken to Highways England to insist on them having the signals manually controlled at peak times and they do seem to have taken this on board, as this was the case this morning."

FURTHER UPDATE:  I've mentioned this in the comments section below, but the latest from Highways England is that a road traffic accident on Monday involving the lights at the junction means they need to be completely replaced. These are not kept in stock, so the agency has to wait for delivery.  They should have a better idea of what the timescale will be early next week.

After 2 days of inertia it would be nice to know when they are going to START to repair the lights

I've just had an update from Highways England. The source of the problem was an accident on Monday which took out the lights and they now need total replacement. They are not kept in stock, so the agency has to wait for delivery, which could take a while. Temporary lights are in place in the meantime. They hope to be able to give us more idea of how long this will take, on Monday.

Cheers for the update, I was puzzling over the apparent lack of activity as I sat staring at the back of a BMW for an hour and a half this morning.

Two Mills is horrendous at the moment.

Cycling is quicker than driving at the moment. Thank the Lord for the Cycle way to Deeside

Isn't it about time that someone, or some organisation took it upon themselves to sort out, for once and for all, the carnage on the A540, and at Two-Mills as a priority?

Now we have temporary traffic lights at Hinderton. Why???? Nothing happening there today, but huge frustrating queues along to beyond Leahurst in the middle of the afternoon. For heavens sake, "What's happening with the High Road?"

At 18:28 on 3rd February 2016, CO Jones commented:
Its madness. One thing after another after another. The residents of this area have been very patient with the HV work on the High Road which was massively undersold disruption wise.

Its quicker for me to cycle the 9 miles to work than it is to drive at the moment. Great weather for it hey :-(

Such is the winter of our discontent....
