Match funding has been obtained from Sport England to the tune of £500,000, for improvements at Neston Recreation Centre.
As revealed on AboutMyArea in November, Cheshire West and Chester Council and their partner organisation Brio Leisure are keen to see improvements take place soon. To that end, a funding bid was made to Sport England which has now been confirmed.
Councillor Louise Gittins, member for Little Neston and Burton and also cabinet member for Communities & Wellbeing, said: "I am extremely pleased to tell council that we have been offered a grant of £500,000 from Sport England to match significant further investment by Brio Leisure in Neston Recreation centre.
"The funding will improve the swimming pool changing rooms, provide a new gym and make the building much more attractive and accessible.
"The future programme will provide more opportunities for the community to use the facility as well as enhancing it for Neston High School.
"We are extremely grateful to Sport England for recognising the importance that an enhanced facility would mean to the health and wellbeing for the people of Neston and the surrounding area."
Neston Councillor Andy Williams pressed for more information on the timescale. Cllr Gittins said: "The full funding package needs to be confirmed and finalised. Following this it is anticipated that start on site would be late May/June subject to planning permission being granted for the new reception."
The improvements look likely to dovetail neatly with the opening of the new Neston High School building, currently on target to welcome the new school year in September 2017.
