Neston Town Council Announces First Precept Rise for Three Years

Neston Town Council have announced that they will be requesting a slightly higher precept from the borough council for 2018/19.

A statement from the Council said: "Following three years of maintaining the charge for Band D properties at the same amount and working to reduce costs, the Council has looked carefully at the budget expenditure for 2018/19 against income.

"The imminent loss of the Council Tax Reduction grant, which has been received since 2013, combined with rising costs of goods and services has led the Council review its policy. In order to maintain the services it currently offers the Council agreed that they needed to increase the precept request this year. At the same time it will continue to work to reduce costs.

"The Council will formally request to Cheshire West and Chester Council a net precept of £223,530 for its budgeting requirements for the year 2018/19.."

The rate for homeowners will increase by 3.9%, which will result in an annual increased cost of £1.47 for Band D properties.

This follows news from Cheshire West and Chester Council that they will be looking to raise Council Tax by 4.99% in order to meet increased social care costs and government cuts to funding. Read more here.

Neston Town Council currently manages the Town Hall, runs the Friday Market, looks after allotments, carries out 'greening' activities and allocates grants to local organisations.  Find out more here.

A curious turn of phrase; for context, may I ask The Council to state here what the net precept requested was for 2011 / 2012? (In actual pounds please not cost per band D household.)

Thank you.
