Music Festival in Tune in Neston

A blend of youth and experience can be heard this weekend as part of Neston Music Festival.
Young Musicians
On Friday evening, finalists of the Rotary District Young Musician of the Year entertain at the Parish Church, whilst on Saturday there is the first of three lunchtime organ recitals by young organists.
Angharad Huw
Two National Finalists, Ellis Thomas (piano) from Colwyn Bay, and Angelina Dorlin-Barlow (soprano) from Southport will be supported by Angharad Huw (harp), Rachel Burnett (saxophone), Gwenan Lloyd (soprano), and Jovi Bryant (treble).
The concert starts at 7.30 and advance tickets (£8) are still available from Allisters Opticians, 9 The Cross.
Port Sunlight Orchestra
Elgar and Friends" is the title of the Port Sunlight Orchestra's concert at the Parish Church on Saturday 28th.
They open at 7.30pm with his Pomp and Circumstance March No 5, and conclude with March No 1. Other Elgar highlights in the varied programme include: Nimrod, The Severn Suite and Bavarian Dances, as well as Sibelius's Valse Triste, Waltz from Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier and Alexander Campbell Mackenzie's Britannia, a Nautical Overture.
No advance tickets: just £10 at the door with tea/coffee included.
Organ RecitalDylan McCaig
The organ scholar at St Chad's Cathedral, Birmingham, Dylan McCaig, plays at the United Reformed Church, Parkgate Road at 12.30 on Saturday 28th April.
He is in his second year at Birmingham Conservatoire.
Sandwiches and coffee will be available. £5 at the door, or £10 for the series of three from Allisters Opticians, 9 The Cross.
Mersey Morris Men and Deva Brass
Last weekend, as well as the ever-popular annual Mersey Morris Men's Ceiledh, the Deva Brass Quintet played to an appreciate audience at Neston Methodist Church.
This featured the founder of the original Neston Music Festival, Mark Powell (trumpet) who spoke of the background to each piece. The music was varied in origin, mood and style and concluded on a happy note with an accomplished and jolly 'Floral Dance'.

Raising money for charity
Neston Civic Society were able to donate the surplus from the jazz concert that opened the festival, and which they sponsored, to Age UK (Neston). The picture shows Age UK's Anne Jones receiving the cheque for £441 from Society Chairman Rob Ward, with concert organiser Clive Edwards and Society Treasurer Janet Griffiths looking on.
