Neston Music Festival Comes to a Close

Published: 22nd May 2018 11:31

The final concert in the amazingly successful Neston Music Festival is on Thursday 24 May and features Neston-raised Billy Thompson and his band. The classically trained improvising violinist performs numerous different styles of music.

At St Thomas's Church, Mostyn Square, Parkgate at 7:30pm Billy Thompson Gypsy Style will perform a mix of Hot Club and Gypsy Jazz classics, fiery Hungarian tunes, with a presentation second to none and led by the ‘unleashable' award winning improvising violinist Billy Thompson himself.

Last time Billy appeared in Parkgate it was to a packed house. So it's likely to be this time. There are only a dozen tickets left from Mozkitos Coffee, Parkgate (0151 336 2527) and you do need a ticket to get in.

There was a similar packed house last week as Sue Reid and her group "Reid Between the Lines" entertained with songs from her Great American Songbook. It was a debut performance which took many familiar only with Sue's "Trad" style completely by surprise. What was so evident to the audience was the group's own pleasure at performing.

A contrast in style was achieved on Friday 18th May at Neston Library. Light classical quintet Fordante took a full house on a musical tour embracing Puccini and film scores. Another successful return visit.

I agree the Festival has been a success, and we must all thank the Town Council, who produced the brochure and arranged for publicity. Without this it is unlikely that the Festival could have taken place. By no means all Town Councils are supportive of the arts! Thanks also to our Rotary District who helped finance the Young Musicians' concert, and to the Liverpool Organists' Association for supporting the Young Organists, and to the many volunteers who ran the individual events.

You need to log in before you can do that! It's only a quick registration process to join the AMA network and completely free.
