Help Scrutinise Cheshire West's Pandemic Community Response and Shielding Support

Published: 9th September 2020 10:28

Residents and community groups are invited to help review the community response and shielding support during the pandemic and to suggest how services might be delivered in the future.

The third meeting of a temporary virtual scrutiny committee of councillors takes place online on 14 September and the Committee will be interested to hear any views or experiences from members of the public.

Cllr Martin Barker - Chair of the Scrutiny CommitteeParkgate's Cllr Martin Barker will again be chairing the meeting of the virtual scrutiny committee.

The Scrutiny Committee is keen to understand what support Non-Shielded Vulnerable (NSV) and Clinically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV) residents received from local community-based organisations and charities during lockdown within the context of the Government's and Council's support offer.

Scrutiny Members are also keen to hear what support was provided to ‘hard to reach' groups, the barriers to providing this support and how these were overcome. They're also seeking to understand what local community-based organisations, charities and partner agencies worked together and with the Council to support NSV and CEV residents during lockdown and what methods of communication worked well.

The Scrutiny Committee's role is to ask questions and seek information from the Cabinet Member, Council Officers, community organisations, and members of the public.

Councillor Martin Barker, Chairman of the Pandemic Response and Recovery Scrutiny Committee, said: "The Scrutiny Committee can scrutinise anything which affects the quality of lives of west Cheshire residents and we welcome the input from members of the public. There is an allocation of fifteen minutes public speaking on the agenda for members of the public to address the meeting.

"Scrutiny members will be commenting on any lessons learned by local community-based organisations, charities, partner agencies and the Council through the community response; identify examples of best practice; and explore how services might be changed or adapted as a result of the community response and in anticipation of a second national lockdown or local lockdown.

"We want to hear about your experiences, concerns or examples on where things have worked well.

The meeting starts online at 6pm on Monday 14 September and can be viewed live. A recording will also be available following the meeting. (Previousmeetings can be viewed here).

Members of the public wishing to address the Committee are required to register their intention with the Director of Governance no less than two clear working days in advance of the meeting, by emailing: scrutiny@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk.
