Neston Fairtrade Steering Group
Published: 2nd March 2017 16:37 |
Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers.
When we buy Fairtrade products, we support small-scale farmers and workers and, through the payment of a social premium, enable the communities to improve their facilities such as building a well, establishing a health clinic or providing books for primary school children.
The aims of the group are:
- To achieve Fairtrade Town Status for Neston, certified by the Fairtrade Foundation (www.fairtrade.org.uk)
- To raise awareness of the impact on farmers and producers of buying Fairtrade products
- Provide retail information on where Fairtrade products can be purchased in the Neston area
- Provide information on which local cafés and restaurants use and serve Fairtrade products
- Plan Fairtrade events in and around Neston
- Provide support for churches and schools to raise awareness of Fairtrade
The steering group meets regularly four or five times a year in Neston Methodist Church. All are welcome.
