CH64 Transport Group: New Bus Service : Neston Connect
Yesterday we held a meeting of the CH64 Transport group (this was set up as a result of the withdrawal of the 272 service from Burton and Ness) and I'm pleased to say we can finally announce the start of the new service ‘Neston Connect' on Monday June 18th, leaving to go to Burton at 936am from Ladies Walk. (Full timetable at the foot of this blog).
This will link Burton and Neston. The Council will do an official press release but I couldn't wait. The new service is being run by GHA Coaches, who operate in other rural area in Cheshire. There are still concerns about areas being missed out e.g. Puddington and West Vale /Marshlands Road area and it is only running 3 days a week but it's a start and we have been reassured that the service can be ‘tweaked' and, if successful, extended.
So, everyone, we have 6 months to make it work and the sooner it ‘Works' the better!! Remember, Use it or Lose it!
There will be lots of leaflets being given out over the next month at all our local events, the libraries, churches, community centres and town hall. and posters in our community notice boards.
Big thanks to everyone who made this happen: the residents, council officers and the Town Council for their generous contribution towards the cost of the bus. Thanks to Ness gardens for their hospitality and secretarial support.
At the meeting we also had a presentation from Dennis O'Brien from Community Transport. Dennis told us about our new Community Car available for local residents to take them to doctor and hospital appointments, all it takes is a phone call and 48 hours notice. Volunteers run the service. We talked about the possibility of getting a community mini bus for Neston, that would be just fantastic so lets make sure there is a huge demand for the Car and then we can push for a bus.
An Employer from Puddington told us about how hard it is for her Neston staff to get to work and how she was wanting to employ apprentices, but how they struggled to get to both work and college due to lack of transport.
Ness Gardens are holding BBC Gardeners Question time in September and we looked at possibilities to link the gardens with Hooton Station just for that day.
We discussed the future of the group and felt we wanted to continue whilst we were on a roll and look at issues such as access to employment and leisure activities for all ages. We are really keen to work with the Town Council on their Neighbourhood plan and David Rudd the resident who chairs the group will attend the event on the 21st June.
A big Plea: We need more residents to attend our meeting, anyone who's interested please contact me or turn up at our next meeting: 10 am July 19th at Ness Gardens.
