Obituary : Cliff Inns

Published: 12th June 2017 08:33

Cliff Inns, 1939 - 2017

Cliff, a retired teacher at Mostyn House School in Parkgate and a long-standing member of Neston Players, passed away earlier this month. His great friend Marnie Clark shares some words on his life.

Cliff Inns

Cliff was born in London but spent most of his childhood in South Wales. He was educated at Whitland Grammar school and went on to graduate from Cardiff University. He was a brilliant scholar and also excelled in many aspects of the sports field, particularly rugby.

He experimented with a number of occupations before settling on teaching. It was when he was teaching at Wells he met his wife Linda and they subsequently moved to Ottawa, Canada, where he became a headmaster.

He loved his time in Canada, but commitments back in the UK brought the family home. Some time later he secured a position at Mostyn House School where he taught modern and ancient languages (and indeed anything else that was required of him!)

He joined Neston Players nearly 30 years ago and that quickly became a large part of his life. He was an accomplished actor, director and set builder (and indeed anything else that was required of him!)

Cliff had many interests and talents. He loved golf despite being, by his own admission, a wholly inconsistent player. He was a very competent cook, painter and a very able writer.

Above all he will be remembered for the friendship he provided to many, his kindness, wisdom and humour. He was the ultimate gentleman. And he had a voice that could have made him a fortune.

He bore his illness with relentless optimism and determination and died peacefully at Elderholme.

Cliff's funeral will be held at Blacon on Wednesday June 28th at 1.20pm. All welcome.

A chapter of Cliff's life is missing here.
In 1963 he married Gwen Hasling - they lived in Wells - and had two sons, one in 1964 and another in 1970. Cliff and Gwen were divorced in 1970. Cliff leaves four sons: Michael, Geoff, Jonathan and Matthew.
