Are You Sitting Comfortably on Neston's New Benches?

Published: 22nd July 2014 10:37

Then let's see the photographic evidence!

Neston's smart new benches have been installed in the town centre.  There are two outside the Town Hall, one on the Cross at the top of Parkgate Road and one outside the shop known as Shand.

The latter has sparked some debate on social media, with people discussing whether it is an appropriate spot, but the decision was taken to place it there as it is one of the sunniest spots in the town centre.  It will stay there until such time as the unit is taken up by a business that wishes to utilise the window, at which point the bench can be moved to another spot.

The two benches outside the Town Hall have been paid for out of the S106 funds that came into the town as a result of the Sainsbury's development.  The two at the Cross have been provided by Neston Civic Society, using money bequeathed by local resident Ruby Holloway, who left money to a number of local organisations. They each carry a plaque, one to in honour of Ruby Holloway herself and the other to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of Neston Female Society's Ladies Club Day in June 2014.

To celebrate the arrival of the benches, local photographer Rob Clive has been capturing some snaps of some of the first 'sitters.'

Sadly, at least one individual failed to show any respect for the installation of the new street furniture, as this photo from Bernard Rose illustrates, and in which Bernard points out that there was quite a big clue as to what else they might have done with their take-away container:
