Parkgate Pupils Get Into the Community Spirit With Winning Posters

Author: Parkgate Society Community Spirit Group Published: 18th April 2017 10:54

Last year the Parkgate Society organised a poster competition at Parkgate Primary School.

The competition was for the children to design a poster on the subjects of either Car Parking or Keep Parkgate Tidy. Our idea was to involve the children in the activities of the Parkgate Society Community Spirit group. With the support of the Head Teacher, Andrew Hutchings, we launched the competition with a view to display winning posters along Parkgate Parade.

The children's response was magnificent, with well over a hundred entries. Martin Barker (CWaC councillor for Parkgate) joined David Johnson (the Parkgate Society)and Andrew Hutchings in judging the posters.

A poster from each year group was selected and the winning entrants all received their prizes before the year end.

Unfortunately, due to a number of issues, it has taken a considerable time to obtain the necessary permissions to install the posters. Martin Barker kindly arranged for the posters to be printed and a selection of the winning posters were put up in time for the Easter weekend. Not all the posters have been used yet as we will be changing them during the summer months. Many thanks to all who participated and apologies again for the delays.

The posters look great and hopefully, since the messages they contain come from young people, they will help change behaviour in the minority of adult people who need to think and act differently. Great work by all involved.

Fantastic idea. Hopefully, the children's posters will prick the conscience of visiting adults.

You need to log in before you can do that! It's only a quick registration process to join the AMA network and completely free.
