Thumbs Up for New Willaston Christmas Lights

Author: Colin Jerrett Published: 11th January 2019 10:40

Colin Jerrett of Willaston and South Wirral WI, updates us on the success of Willaston's new Christmas lights and the evening arranged in December for the switch-on.

WOW! What an evening. A huge thank you to the whole and wider community of Willaston Village and everyone who made the evening a success. The new Christmas Lights were officially switched on and we all agreed that they looked absolutely fantastic.

New Willaston Christmas Lights

Crowds lined the sides of Neston and Hadlow Roads and packed out the car park to countdown with Cllr Myles Hogg and Ceri Jones (fundraiser extraordinaire for the new lights).

Carols were sung by the Hadlow Green Singers before and after the countdow,n until Santa arrived on his sleigh with his own musical accompaniment to meet over one hundred children - and one dog - and hear their wish lists, before departing for a short tour of the Village.

Simon Le Barber continued the music in his own inimitable style and our members continued to distribute mulled wine and mince pies. Pizza and ice cream were available outside and there was a small "Food Hall" inside with many Christmas Gift stalls in the main part of the Memorial Hall.

The main charity chosen for our fundraising this Christmas is Wirral Women's and Children's Aid, providing refuge for families in crisis, and we are extremely grateful for your generosity during both the evening and on our subsequent sleigh tours in the Village.

Our thanks to everyone who helped in addition to our own Rotary members: Helen Diamond-Silas, Mark & Anita Mitchell and Mitchell Group, the PCSOs, Hadlow Green Singers, Simon Le Barber, St John's Ambulance, White Feather Home & Gifts, Saughall Rotary and the several individuals from the Christmas lights fundraising group who marshalled and those who helped on the sleigh runs.

We gratefully acknowledge the donations of mince pies and mulled wine from Blain Boland Solicitors, Asda Bromborough and Costco Chester Gates and our thanks also to the various stall holders and food vendors for supporting our event which we hope you all enjoyed.

Finally, the members of Willaston & South Wirral Rotary wish you all a peaceful, healthy, happy 2019 and thank you most sincerely for helping us raise £1,500 during our Christmas collections.
