Rob Lawton updates us on the ever-growing Neston Nomads Girls squad and their fundraising activities in the local area.
Neston Nomads Girls have been playing together now for around 18 months and have grown organically again this season to 3 teams - WHO, U12 and U13 - in total around 45 girls are now signed up.
I run the U13's along with Chris McKellar. As a club we strongly believe that playing for our team is not just about the football - it's about building and supporting the girls' development to help them as they grow and in future life. Whether that is communication skills, team building, decision making and dealing with 'ups & downs', we feel we can help girls be better equipped for life. As well as playing football and socialising, we are also supporting and developing the girls' physical and mental wellbeing.
This season we also decided that we would encourage the girla to help support a nominated charity. We decided on Claire House and set ourselves a target of raising £1500 for the season.
We started with a World Cup sweepstake. We then had a cake sale at a Charity Match we played in August. We have set up a Pop-up café at our weekly games - the brainchild of one of the girls' parents, Robbie and Louise Davies. with donations from parent/girl bakers and run by the girls and parents. This has raised around £600 so far, which is amazing effort.
We also raised over £600 for Wirral Hospice, when around 30 of the girls and their mums did the recent Glow Flow Walk in West Kirby.
We have been working with a Claire House education officer to carry out some assemblies in the girls' High Schools, to raise awareness and profile of the charity, along with some in-school events run by the girls to raise funds. We also have a number of other fundraising events planned for the remainder of the season, involving both parents and girls.
We are also looking at supporting one of our team sponsors - Kate Plus - who provide specialist nurse support for care and residential homes for the older generation, with visits to the homes to share stories, interact and provide an insight into the girls' football.
