Sunday 6 May 2012, 3.30 pm, Holy Trinity Church, Gosport
A talk and concert celebrating the restoration of the unique pipe organ in Gosport's Holy Trinity Church. The Gosport organ was made in 1720 for the Duke of Chandos, who employed the composer Handel at his London palace. In the 1740s the organ was bought by the people of Gosport, where it has remained ever since. Professor Graydon Beeks (Pomona College, California) will introduce choral music specifically written to incorporate this special instrument. Baroque instrumentalists from the Netherlands will join the University of Portsmouth Chamber Singers in performing celebratory music by Handel and Pepusch.
