Portsmouth Football Club On The Season Ahead

Author: annahowelll Published: 27th July 2013 10:01

Yesterday saw the whole Portsmouth Football Club First Team getting kitted out in for their team suits at local Gunwharf tailors, TM Lewin.

The fitting, which was open for the public to see and get autographs and photos with their favourite stars, was possibly one of the first glimpses of the newly formed team out and about together, and AboutMyArea/PORTSMOUTH were lucky enough to be invited up for the occasion.

The team were all in very good spirits, and who could blame them as they all took it in turn to be measured by the attentive and friendly staff and decorated with a selection of beautifully cut, sharp suits.

The talk of the changing rooms was the season ahead, as well as how happy they were to be in Portsmouth with all its sunshine and glory.

Between fittings AboutMyArea managed to catch a few words with some of the players:

 Danny East, Left back said:

"I'm looking forward to getting the season started, especially as the first game is a home game, the atmosphere is going to be amazing, I know we are expecting 17-18,000 so I am very excited about that.

"Obviously today we are here getting all our suits fitted for the home games and the public are here too which is good, this shop is great we have been well looked by the staff, and the suits are very nice and fit perfectly.

"Gunwharf itself is beautiful, especially on a summers day like today it is nice to come here for a meal and look out over the marina - it's just beautiful.

Andy Barcham, Midfielder added:

"I think it is nice how everyone comes together and we are lucky enough that TM Lewin are fitting are suits today as a team and with the public allowed in to it just shows how we are keeping the community involved and showing them that we appreciate their support - they are great.

"And the suits themselves are great; it makes us feel better as a team to look smart ahead of games. This really is a communal team in a great area.

"All the fans are really close to each other and the team, and I just think that is great, I have never really experienced that at any other club I have been in - you can really see how passionate the fans are and I think that is one of the main attractions of the club, and the city."

 Sonny Bradley, Centre half commented:

"This is my first time at Fratton Park, we have been in preseason now for three weeks and I am really enjoying myself and just can't wait for the season to start now.

"We are here today getting suited and booted ready for the Oxford game next week. Portsmouth is an amazing area, the fans have just been great, they are what makes the club so special."

Ricky Holmes, midfielder, told us:

"I'm really looking forward to the home games and getting us out of this division really. I'm enjoying being here at TM Lewin today with the rest of the team, Gunwharf is such a great place - I love the bars and restaurants.

"I live in Southsea which is another nice area and great place to live in - much better than Southend where I have come from."

Joe Devera, Defender, added:

"Portsmouth is a lovely City"

 Yassin Moutaouakil, Defender, commented:

"I am looking forward to the season as we have a good squad and we want to do well for the fans and the club, and share lots of happiness."

Finally we caught up with Mark Hayes, TM Lewin store manager, to find out why he is happy to be part of Pompey's preseason training by supplying the club with their very smart suits:

"This is the second year we have done the boys. The first year was a hand shake to help them really because they were going through so much trouble. This year we decided to make it more formal and do a proper sponsorship deal for them including all the back room staff as well.

"They have picked a really nice grey suit, and getting it here means an awful lot to us. Last year was so much fun, and that was the real essence of it really, so to be involved again this year is just fantastic - may long the association go on."

You will be able to see the suits for yourself, on the backs of the Portsmouth first team, and if you like what you see then head down to TM Lewin in Gunwharf!
