Last night saw the highly acclaimed Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Cats, opening at the Kings Theatre, thanks to the incredibly talented CCADS Theatre, who brought this classic tale to life.
Of course, the story of Cats is already a well-known one to fans of Sir Lloyd Webber and avid theatre goers, making each new adaptation of it a bit daunting to those who take on the job - But apparently not for the CCADS actors.
This company of what seemed like hundreds managed to engulf the entire theatre into their high-octane performance of this hugely popular show, complete with cats crawling through the audience amongst the mesmerised crowd.
In fact, so enchanting was this adaptation of Cats it wasn't until the end of the first half that I realised that the whole production had been presented with quite possibly the least amount of props, and scene sets I have ever seen in a show - The cats literally were everything!
Of course it goes without saying that this piece was bursting with song, but we didn't expect to see the entire storyline sang through to us by the actors, without pausing for breath it seemed and, whilst we appreciate that this may not be everyone's cup of tea, the company should be very proud of themselves for carrying it off, flawlessly.
Cats is running at the Kings until Saturday, if you are looking for an enjoyable way to enjoy these long bank holiday evenings, you will not be disappointed - Book your tickets here!
