Mortar Discovery Prompts Controlled Explosion in Parkgate
Published: 10th September 2013 20:09 |
A resident of Parkgate came across two live mortar rounds when clearing a shed at a family address on Tuesday September 10.
These appear to have been a live mortar round and a live smoke round from World War II. Following enquiries Cheshire Police in conjuction with specialists from Chester's Army Explosive Ordnance Department conducted a controlled local explosion on Old Quay Lane in Parkgate. The incident passed safely with no need to evacuate any local residents.
PC Graham Davis from the Neston Police unit said: "Can I remind all local residents that if they find anything that appears to be any form of ordnance that they do not handle it or move it.
"Should you find any such device please call Police immediately so that expert advice can be sought straight away and the devices dealt with safely."
