Neston South Wirral HC became European Hockey Federation (EHF) Club of the Year last week after a fantastic year on the field.
Paris side St Germain won, but we were runners-up out of all the clubs in Europe. It is based on good practice and how well the club is run rather than achievements on the field, but ironically it follows on from our best season in Neston's illustrious history.
The Ladies were promoted for the 4th time in as many seasons after winning North Division 1 and are one division off National League. The Men's also got promoted after their best season in 16 years and will play North Division 1 next year.
The club, which is based at Neston Cricket Club in Parkgate, has also done incredibly well at Junior level with the U18, U16 and U12 Boys all reaching their age group National Finals, with the U18's becoming Runners-up last month. We also have Annie Mills who will play for England at U16 level over Easter!
This followed on after a massive £1.4 million investment in the Neston Cricket Club in 2009 and as a result the fruits of hard work are beginning to pay off.
These Awards and achievements come along after many years of hard work with a great team of coaches, mangers, and parents as well fantastic volunteers here at Neston after a great investment four years ago.
