New Men's Captain at Bromborough Golf Club

Published: 14th April 2014 09:31

There was a cricketing theme to the drive-in for Bromborough Golf Club's 2014 Men's Captain.

New Men's Captain at Bromborough Golf ClubMike Heathfield is welcomed as the new men's Captain at
Bromborough Golf Club.

In wintry rather than cricket weather, former Neston CC player and Umpire Mike Heathfield was welcomed to the first tee through an archway of cricket bats held by members dressed as Umpires, before having to remember how to wield the willow on a specially prepared pitch on the first tee.

A number of Bromborough members then bowled an assortment of deliveries, including wickedly spinning underarm lobs by the Lady Captain, Gill Martindale.

In a short speech the new Captain expressed his gratitude that he wasn't expected to hit the traditional drive with a white stick and normal service was resumed with him being re-acquainted with his clubs and thanking the golfing gods for keeping the ball on the fairway. His chosen charities for 2014 are The Stroke Association and funding a defibrillator for the Club.

Bromborough Golf Club is located in a mature part of the Leverhulme Estate at the heart of the Wirral Peninsula and is renowned as a hidden gem of a Golf Course; "Wirral's Parkland Jewel®". For 111 years golfers have been tackling the distinctive 18 holes that play between 6300 and 6600 yards depending on the tees used. Its quality can be evidenced by its selection to host the English Amateur Matchplay Championship in 2005, English Men's Seniors Championship 2003 and the Cheshire Matchplay in 2010.

A small number trial membership vacancies exist at the present time whereby golfers can pay a pro-rata subscription for 5,6 or 7 day membership and play unlimited golf for the remaining months of 2014.
