Neston Village Fair 2019

Thanks to the time and efforts of a number of volunteers, plus sponsorship from local businesses and Neston Town Council, thousands of people enjoyed a full programme of entertainment, an array of stalls, fabulous refreshments and a raft of activities at this year's Neston Village Fair.

The Rose Queen and her attendants were from St Winefride's Primary School - Samantha Connolly, Georgia Charlotte Toner and Sean Cunningham, who were driven to the field by members of North Cheshire Car Club and Wirral Classic Car Club.
Rev Josh Askwith, the Curate of Neston, welcomed the former Mayor of Neston, Cllr Pat Kynaston to open the fair and to crown the Rose Queen.

The opening act on the stage, which was introduced by the compere, Terry Wornast, was the Choir of Woodfall Primary School. Further entertainment was provided by the Little Actors Theatre Company with InterACT Youth Theatre; Parade Jazz Band and the myriad talents of Hip & Harmony CIC's Street Dancers, Community Choir and 64 N'ukes. The Bethania Puppets once again amused their audiences on the second stage.

There were a number of new attractions on the field, including the Magical Circus Workshop and Active Cheshire with their human table football and football/tennis speed gun. There was a welcome return of the Deeside Sea Scouts Rope Bridge.

A grand raffle took place, with the main prize courtesy of Andrew's Estates. Elephant Coffee brought along their vintage coffee van and set up the beer tent.
The Burger stall did a grand trade, as did Cheshire Chutney Company's Nick Marsh's fabulous pork pies, sausage rolls and pasties, raising funds for the 2375 Squadron Air Cadets. In fact, it was a day for hot food, since, whilst the Fair was blessed with dry weather, after a rather damp morning, there was a steady cool breeze throughout the afternoon, which didn't do much for ice cream sales!

Numerous community organisations ran stalls or organised activities, including Neston Players, the Ellesmere Port and Neston Community Car (more volunteer drivers needed, please!), Neston Community Youth Centre, Neston Rotary Club, the RSPB, Hinderton Guides, Wirral Institute of Advanced Motorists, Neston Civic Society, the Parkgate Society, Friends of Lees Lane Ponds, and more.

Proceeds from the event, as always, will go to good causes in the area. Another great community day, well done to everyone involved in the organisation, particularly the Village Fair Committee led by Keith Moores.

The Committee expressed their thanks to all the sponsors of the Village Fair, Neston Town Council, Lookers (Vauxhall) Ellesmere Port, Elephant Collective, Andrews Estates, Neston Chiropody & Podiatry and Allistair & Simpson Opticians.

Editor's Note: My huge thanks to Keith Moores, Bernard Rose, Rob Clive, Steve Ebbrell and David Sejrup - without their very welcome contributions it would not have been possible to report on this year's Fair as your editor is currently out of commission with a bad back. Well done to all involved for what looks to have been a great day.
