M53 Partly Closed Following Tanker Accident
Published: 10th November 2011 12:09 |
Two lanes on the M53 southbound are closed between junctions J3 and J4, due to an accident.
A petrol tanker is reported to have toppled down an embankment at around 10.30 this morning. The driver is unhurt and there were no other vehicles involved.
The road was re-opened shortly after 3:00 pm, once the vehicle had been fully removed.
An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the accident.
The incident comes only three days after a fatal accident involving a lorry just a few miles away on the M56 near Warrington. Driver Tony Sainsbury was sadly killed in the accident, when the lorry he was driving fell from a bridge onto the carriageway. More here.
