Joy at Easter as Jackie Finds Her Neston Roots

Readers will be delighted to hear that there has been a very happy outcome to our appeal on behalf of Jackie Reed, who was seeking her Neston family.
Jackie Reed
In the appeal on AboutMyArea earlier this week, Jackie asked if anyone could help find family members. The little she knew was that she had been born in Neston, to Mary Beedles, and was adopted at the age of 8 months. After a spell in London, Jackie has been living in South Africa for many years. Having recently obtained her adoption file, she began her search for relatives.
Now, with the help of several of our readers, Jackie has found out that she has an older brother, Mickey Beedles, who still lives locally. Today, they spoke on the phone for the first time. Mickey had always believed he had a younger sister, but had no idea how to find her. Needless to say, both Jackie and Mickey are delighted to have found one another.
In a tale that would not be out of place in a Sunday night drama on BBC TV, it transpires that Mary's husband (Mickey's father) was reported as missing in action at the beginning of the Second World War, not long after Mickey was born. Several years later, believing her husband to have died, she went on to have a brief relationship that resulted in the birth of her daughter. In a bizarre twist, it turned out that her husband was in fact a prisoner of war and he returned in 1946. Sadly by that time Jackie had already been adopted, as her mother struggled to cope alone with two young children.
Jackie said: "Thank you so much for helping me to find my roots. I am very overwhelmed at the moment especially after my phone call from Mickey.
"He said my name was Jasmine and that my mother wanted to keep me but the Army Welfare persuaded her to give me up. I never knew that her husband was a prisoner of war. I was with her and Mickey for 8 months until I was adopted.
"I would love to share my happiness with your readers and for all those who came through with little bits of information. I can't wait to get more of my family history and photos of his children and grandchildren, and to share with him photos of my family."
Several readers took an interest and supplied information that brought about this lovely ending, but special thanks must go to John Cartlidge, for researching Jackie's family history and Rob Halsall for providing Jackie with contact information for Mickey.
As Jackie says: "The hands that help are holier than the lips that pray." What a timely comment as we go into the Easter weekend.
An AMAZing result!
