As part of this weekend's Go Neston! project, riders taking part in the Liverpool-Chester-Liverpool Bike Ride took a trip through Parkgate and Neston.

Pennine Events organised the route to come through the local area for the first time in a decade, and organisations came together to make sure they received a warm welcome, including the bellowing and bell-ringing of a temporary Town Crier.

Riders received a warm welcome on Neston Market Square. Pictured here are Katy Pierce, Town Centre Manager; the Mayor of Neston, Cllr Mike Shipman and Town Crier for the day, CAN Volunteer Ross.
The route brought the cyclists down Boathouse Lane from the A540 into Parkgate, along the Parade, up Station Road and Parkgate Road to The Cross. There, participants could elect to take a detour down Brook Street to the rest and refreshment station in the Market Square, or continue straight on down the High Street and out via Ness and Burton, back onto the A540 to Chester.

CAN Group, working with Neston Town Council, organised a Cycle Fair and the Refreshment Station on the Market Square, offering free fruit, water and other snacks to the riders. There were stalls providing various cycle-related services and goods and a First Aid stand.

At Parkgate, on the Cross and in the Market Square there was live entertainment organised by Hip & Harmony CIC, including The Night Whisperers, Tracey O'Toole and Kenny & The Energy.
Neston & District Chamber of Trade and Neston Town Council collaborated on a booklet of vouchers for riders to take away, giving them discounts and special offers at a number of local businesses such as Tracey's Food Hall, The Brown Horse, Elephant Coffee, Rightway, Escape, Carson Print, DDM, Kri Kri, Ness Gardens, Gordale, The Ship Hotel and The Brewers Arms. The idea was to invite them to return to the area over the Summer when they would have more time to explore what's on offer.
Kenny & The Energy provided entertainment on the Market Square.
Organisers had been watching the weather forecast all week with some trepidation, but fortunately the rain held off until after the riders had all made it through on their way to Chester.
Go Neston! was a marketing project bringing together a number of events taking place over the weekend of July 4th and 5th - Neston Farmers' Market, Neston Village Fair, the Liverpool-Chester-Liverpool cycle ride, the Cycle Fair, the Colour FUN Run, Family Fun Day at Neston Cricket Club and the arrival of the Great Tour Cycle Ride.
All concerned have expressed great pride in the delivery of the project and have learned a lot to build on it for next year.

Many of the riders said they's be back again to visit.
Hope we get the event again next year.

Hopefully this ride will go through Parkgate / Neston next year, I know it's a bit of a pain for a few hours for local residents (there are always a few idiots in any large scale event, but 99% of the people I saw were riding considerately) but surely the long term benefits to the local economy must outweigh the short term inconvenience.
Thanks again, and well done!
