The Gig in action
Cambridge’s maverick musical sensation Dowsing Sound Collective is gearing up for its biggest gig to date, in the magnificent Ely Cathedral on Saturday 6th July.
The group, made up of 110 singers and musicians drawn from Cambridgeshire, Suffolk & Essex, will be performing an electrifying range of music, leaping between global artists such as Paul Simon, Moby and The Rolling Stones, to covers of European tracks by Ane Brun and Agnes Obel, and even some 16th century polyphony. With a bold instrumental line-up including the Cathedral organ, Hammond organ, trumpet, flugelhorn, violin, African, Middle Eastern and European drums, bass, piano and even an iPad.
Founder Andrea Cockerton says: “Dowsing Sound Collective isn’t your average musical group. We have both first time singers and people with professional experience in the West End, the choral sector and the jazz circuit, as well as our own band made up of both professional and semi pro musicians. A third of the group are men, we sing in multiple languages (including German and Gaelic during the Ely gig), and will shortly be releasing our first EP, with some exciting collaborations planned for the future. It’s an exciting time!”
Dowsing is looking for sponsorship for the gig, which is called Home and will raise money for Dowsing’s own dedicated music foundation, The Dosoco Foundation – for more information see www.thedowsingsoundcollective.com.
The event is proudly supported by local and national sponsors, including Bobby Aitken and Autograph Sound, who between them have provided sound design and equipment for some of the UK’s largest events such as the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies and West End shows. Additional sponsors are Harvey Goldsmith’s Ignite, Conscious Communications, Wölfstrome Design, Millers Music, Cambridge Assessment and Aim Composites.
