Bures Music Festival Is Back, 3rd - 7th July

Author: Bures Published: 8th June 2013 15:26

Five days of great music by the River Stour

Bures Music Festival is back this July with five days of great music from rock to pop, blues to jazz – all located in a beautiful setting by the River Stour.

This year’s festival is promising to be bigger and better with our best-ever line-up of music, B-Fest young musicians’ competition, plus free camping. Whether you’re a David Bowie fan, a bluesman, a jazz aficionado or a budding star, there’s an event for everyone.

  • Musicology kicks off the festival on Wednesday in atmospheric St Mary’s Church. The professional choral group will perform a repertoire of classic tunes from Ivor Novello to Lennon and McCartney, infused with their unique blend of enchanting melodies.
  • Jazz in the marquee on Thursday night will be hosted by former Shakatak drummer Roger Odell. His band Larraine and the Jazznights Trio will headline alongside star guest Snake Davis supported by the Watson-Hurley Quartet.
  • Friday night’s blues line up will rock the marquee with headliners Eddie and the Hot Rods supported by The Struck Bats and Ben Smith. The evening will be hosted by BBC Radio Suffolk’s Stephen Foster.
  • Budding stars taste the limelight at B-Fest young musicians’ competition in the marquee on Saturday. Now in its ninth year, B-Fest has become a showcase for East Anglia’s music stars of the future. The event is open to solo singers and instrumentalists, small bands, groups and choirs aged between nine and 18. Download the entry form at buresmusicfestival.org.
  • Let’s Dance! Saturday night is set to be hunky dory as we welcome our headliners Absolute Bowie – the only Bowie tribute act to be personally endorsed by Bowie drummer Woody Woodmansey. Absolute Bowie is taking time out from a European tour to perform hits from Oh You Pretty Things to Ziggy Stardust. What better way to celebrate the year that David Bowie releases a new album and has a major exhibition at the V&A?
  • Sunday is set to be a sell-out with our line-up of top local bands including The Story Boys, The Blue Meteors, Vincent Lapie Trio, Ady Johnson and, back by popular demand, Two Steps Twice. Plus, we’ll have kids’ entertainment and loads more food and shopping stalls.
  • Festival organiser Tom Moore says, ‘Last year’s festival was such a success so we’re building on that with more music in the marquee, more stalls and kids’ entertainment. It’s going to be amazing.’
  • Free camping by the Stour – whether you’re bringing a tent, a camper van or a Winnebago. To book, email buresmusicfestival.org.
  • Under 10s go free – and on Sunday we’ll have plenty of kids’ entertainment including face painters, a bouncy castle and craft fun.
  • Plus We’ll have a bigger variety of food stalls to tickle your taste buds from hot dogs to healthy salads, ice cream to cream teas.
  • Tickets from £5, or snap up a five-day-pass for only £35; under 10s go free. For ticket prices to all events, and where to buy, visit buresmusicafestival.org.
