Local bands lined up to celebrate final day of Bures Music Festival

The final day of Bures Music Festival will feature a line-up of live music from local bands

Music by the Stour on Sunday 7 July will celebrate the best acts from the Suffolk and Essex music scene – a hotbed of talent that spans genres from rock to hip-hop, soul to ska, chanson francaise and every musical genre in between.

The day of local music will be headlined by Colchester singer/songwriter Ady Johnson who has a nationally acclaimed album Tell The Worry Dolls to his name. Popular Sudbury ska and reggae group Two Steps Twice and acoustic hip-hop group The Story Boys – comprised of lads from Sudbury, Long Melford and Great Waldingfield – are also on Sunday’s bill. The Blue Meteors and the Vincent Lapie Trio will cover a range of genres between them from soul to bossa nova as well as chanson francaise.

Headliner Ady Johnson, says, “I was really pleased to be asked to headline Sunday at BMF this year. It’s looking to be a great year and has some fine acts on the bill. My roots are in Sudbury and I have a strong connection with the area so I’m looking forward to playing on home turf. It’s also nice to be involved with a festival which raises money for local charities. It’s going to be great fun!”

Other local acts will include Colchester teenager Rhys Butterworth-Bowman who, since winning last year’s B-Fest Young Musicians Competition, has gone on to perform at the Indigo O2 arena and released a single called New Beginning. The winner of this year’s B-Fest – to be held on Saturday 7 July at Bures Music Festival – will be awarded a slot on Sunday’s line-up.

The fifth and final day of Bures Music Festival’s at Bures Recreation Ground will also include a great mix of food including curries, hot dogs, salads and fish and chips; as well face painters and craft fun for kids; and, of course, a licensed bar.

Bures Music Festival runs from 3 to 7 July, kicking off with a choral night in St Mary’s Church on Wednesday 7.30pm; jazz on Thursday 7.30pm; blues on Friday 7.30pm; B-Fest on Saturday 12pm till 4pm; Absolute Bowie from 7.30pm; and on Sunday the best local bands from 12 till 8pm.

Early-bird tickets for all events are available from buresmusicfestival.org. Tickets can also be purchased at Compact Music in Sudbury; Made by Moi in Lavenham and at the post office and pubs in Bures.

Bures Music Festival is a not-for-profit event with proceeds going to local good
causes including Ferriers Barn centre for young disabled people and St Helena
Hospice in Colchester.
