Popular B-Fest music competition seeks budding stars

B-Fest – one of the most popular events of Bures Music Festival – is launching this week to sign up young musicians to perform live. B-Fest young musicians’ competition, which takes place on Saturday 6 July, has become a showcase for up-and-coming music stars from the East Anglia region.

Now in its ninth year, the competition is open to solo singers and instrumentalists, small bands and groups, choirs and orchestras made up of artists aged between nine and 18 years old. This year, the winner of B-Fest will perform live on Sunday at Bures Music Festival.

B-Fest gives budding stars a taste of the limelight with the opportunity to perform in a large venue before an enthusiastic crowd. Due to the enormous success of last year, B-Fest is moving to Saturday afternoon to accommodate more performers, their fans and families. As well as live music, there will be food, stalls and children’s entertainment.

The music career of last year’s winner, 13-year-old Rhys Butterworth-Bowman, has gone from strength to strength. Rhys has released a single New Beginning and played live at numerous events including Jimmy’s Farm. He will be a special guest performer in the marquee at this year’s B-Fest.

B-Fest is compèred and judged by local guitarist and music teacher James Payze; fellow judges include professional musicians Claire Ashby and Tom Moore, plus B-Fest sponsor Trevor Daley. All proceeds go to Colchester Hospital Children’s Ward.

For more details and an entry form, please visit buresmusicfestival.org. Closing date for entries Friday 21 June 2013. Successful entrants will be informed by email by Friday 28 June.

Bures Music Festival from 3 to 7 July features a range of music genres from rock to pop, blues to jazz in a beautiful setting by the River Stour. The festival is a not-for-profit event and donates all its proceeds to local charities. For more information, please contact alice@alicebutler.co.uk; or visit buresmusicfestival.org
