HALF-TERM OPENING: THE LADY OF CLARE EXHIBITION
Exhibition on Elizabeth de Burgh, First Lady of Clare, and her contributions to the town. Probably Clare's most important resident, Elizabeth inherited Clare Castle and manor from her father Gilbert the Red, Earl of Clare, Gloucester and Hertford, and guided the town to its greatest prosperity in the 14th century. Best remembered for founding Clare College Cambridge, she also built parts of Clare Priory, entertained kings (some of whom were close relatives), provided employment and ran the market. Many aspects of medieval life are explored in the exhibition and the accompanying catalogue.
Thursdays through Sundays and Bank Holidays, 2-5pm; Saturdays and Bank Holidays 11.30-5pm. £1, but free to Friends and under-16s. The season ends on 29th September.
