Come and Celebrate Thomas Gainsborough’s Birthday at the Sudbury May Market at Gainsborough’s House Saturday, 3 May 2014
Join us on Saturday 3rd May at Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury for our May Market as we celebrate Thomas Gainsborough’s birthday. The House will be in full swing with music, stalls, family activities and more – so come down and join in the celebration.
Garlanding Thomas Gainsborough, Market Square in Sudbury.
Thomas Gainsborough RA, was born in Sudbury in May 1727. In honour of his birthday, his fine statue on the Market Hill will be garlanded with flowers on attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Sudbury and the Director of Gainsborough’s House, Mark Bills. Musicians will then lead the way from the statue down to his birthplace, Gainsborough's House.
May Market
As part of the birthday celebrations, there will be a May Market in the Sudbury House and beautiful garden. Stalls will be selling a variety of wares including plants, cakes, cards, prints, collectables, books, delicious home-made refreshments and much, much more. Talks by Gainsborough’s House staff on specific paintings will take place on the hour in the galleries.
The May Market will be open from 10am until 3pm. There will be something of interest for everyone and activities for children - entrance is free, including admission to Gainsborough's House.
