Sudbury becomes the first town centre to have charging points for electric cars
An Electric Vehicle Charging Point has been installed at the Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Sudbury, making the town more accessible for green minded motorists.
Babergh District Council has installed the ‘fast' charging point and now opened it for public use. Up to two cars at a time can use the point, at two special parking bays in the Kingfisher Leisure Centre's car park. Electric vehicles can charge using the Type 2 Mennekes connector, the most common electric charging connection.
The point provides electricity at a cost of 30p per kW with a £1 connection fee, with payment accepted via a smartphone app or using a contactless RFID Card available from EVDriver.
The charging point was installed by EV Driver, a company who have installed charging points across the UK and worked towards CO2 reduction over the last nine years.
Cllr Tina Campbell, Babergh District Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "There are a great many benefits of cleaner air not just to drivers but for the whole community, and with the world moving towards using more electric and fewer petrol and diesel vehicles, we want to take the lead and make Babergh just as accessible to electric cars as it is to other models.
"This charging point is a first step in showing visitors and residents that Sudbury is open for business however you choose to travel, and will help bring in more people to enjoy everything the town has to offer."
