Making Moving Easy in Sudbury and Suffolk, Moving in Hot weather

We all hope for nice weather on moving day, but moving in very warm temperatures needs a little extra thought to help the day go smoothly. It may be cooler to let the professionals move you but here are Todds Removals Ltd's tips for moving in hot weather.

Keep checking the weather forecast in the week leading up to your removal day and be prepared for whatever mother nature gives you, the British summer's weather can be very fickle. If you are moving a distance don't forget to check the weather for your new address too.

As with all moves get as much done as you can before your moving day use the cooler evenings and early mornings for sorting and packing. On Removals day start early in the day, the temperature will be much lower then and this gives you more time so you can take things slower and take those well needed breaks.

Wear the right clothes, tempting as it may be to put on loose fitting clothes and sandals when it's warm these are not appropriate for lifting and carrying heavy furniture. Todds Removals advise you wear natural fibres in light colours to help stay cool. Covering up is a good way to avoid sun burn. Footwear is very important when moving house. Make sure you are wearing sturdy shoes or boots as there is a surprising amount of walking involved. They will also offer more protection than sandals should something fall on your foot. Don't forget to put on sun screen and keep those sun glasses handy.

When you pack your essentials box - the box that is last on and first off the truck, bear in mind the weather if it is hot pack more cold drinks - use a cool bag if you have one with plenty of ice blocks. You may also want to include a wash kit to allow you freshen up before you leave. Keeping towels handy that can be soaked in cold water and placed round the neck and shoulders is also a good way to stay cool.

Make sure you and all your family drink plenty to replace all those lost fluids on hot days. Don't forget to eat too. The heat can suppress appetites along with any anxieties you may have on moving day. Try and eat little and often to keep your energy levels up and try to avoid salty and heavy foods.

Overheating can be dangerous make sure you are aware of all the symptoms which can include; headaches, dizziness, cramps and even fainting. Listen to your body and take regular breaks.

To help keep cool inside keep doors and windows shut if the outside temperature is higher than inside only open them when the temperature inside is more than outside or to make use of any breeze there may be. If you are leaving your curtains or blinds keep them closed to keep out the sun's rays.

It is not only you that could suffer in the heat some of your possessions may be affected too. Try not to leave items such as electronics outside in the sun make sure they go straight on the lorry. Pictures and photographs can also be affected. We always advise emptying your freezer and running down food supplies before moving and on hot days this is even more important as some foods will spoil in the heat. The contents of your freezer will defrost quickly in the heat even if you are only moving a short distance.

Plants can suffer too in the hot weather we advise not watering them on moving day as this can lead to the transfer of dirt to other items of furniture. Make sure your plants are not left out in the heat for longer than necessary and don't forget to give them a good water when you reach your new

home.

If you are lucky enough to have portable air conditioning units and fans use them to cool down well used hall ways and walk ways. Pack them last but don't forget to empty any condensing units.

Don't forget your pets can suffer in the heat too. We would advise they are looked after by friends or family on moving day but if this is not possible ensure they have plenty to drink, do not leave them in the garden in full sun whilst you load the truck, either dedicate a room to them - but keep an eye on the temperature or place them in the shade. Do not under any circumstances leave them in a vehicle.

Finally when its all done find a nice air conditioned restaurant for your evening meal.
